“I didn’t hate you.” I deny. “All I wanted was for you to let me tell you the truth.”

“I didn’t know that,” he says earnestly. “All I could think was how despicable I was, how I didn’t deserve you.” He shakes his head, “By then you were living with Chace, and I tortured myself with the thought of him picking up the pieces I had so carelessly broken.”

I shake my head. “But Chace and I were just friends.”

“I know that now, but then, I convinced myself of a lot of things, that you had moved on, that you had gotten over me, that you were happy, and I hated you for it. I was a mess. I convinced myself to hate you, it was much better than loving you when you weren’t mine. If I had known what you were going through… ”

“It doesn’t matter now,” I smile through my tears. “It was such a long time ago,”

“Yes... but not a day goes by that I haven’t thought about everything that happened then. What I knew of it, or what I thought I knew. When I saw you in that restaurant three years ago, I almost went crazy. As far as I was concerned, it was further proof that you had moved on, when I was still flailing around, trying to forget.” He sighs, “You’ve always been a part of me Olivia, no matter how hard I tried to fight it, or deny it."

“Like a brand on my heart.” I tell him.

He chuckles, “Exactly. You branded yourself deep inside my heart, no matter how hard I tried to get your mark out, it never worked. I think on some level. I didn’t want it to.

I know what he means. “Me too.”

“I love you.” The words are simple and plain, and I realize that it’s the first time he has ever said them to me.

I giggle, a bubble of happiness, bursting out of me. “I love you too Jackson Lockewood, I have since I first saw you.

He kisses me. “I love you,” He says again, later. “I want to make it up to you Olivia. Everything. Will you let me?”

I’ll let him do whatever he wants. “What did you have in mind?”

“How about the rest of my life?” he asks, “Every day to show that you’ll never be alone as long as I’m alive?”

Is he asking what I think he’s asking? “Jackson…” I start hesitantly.

He drops down on one knee before I have a chance to ask my question. “I got this on my way here because I was determined that no matter what happened, I wouldn’t let you leave me again.” He pauses, “You don’t have to say yes right now.”

“Yes.” I interrupt, throwing my arms around his neck, not caring is I seem too eager… too happy, because that’s exactly what I am. “Yes, Jackson, I’ll marry you.”

He expels a breath, his face breaking into a happy smile. He gets up, lifting me up along with him, and when he kisses me, I give myself up to him, because I’ve always… always belonged to him, only to him.

  The End

  About Serena Grey

Serena is obsessed with books. She reads everything, from history, to the classics, to novels and even comic books. (Go Walking Dead!). She started writing because the many stories in her head wouldn’t leave her in peace otherwise. Even though she loves all kinds of fiction, she has a soft spot for love and romance, and that flush of pleasure that can only be found at the end of a beautiful love story.

When she’s not reading and writing, she enjoys cocktails, coffee, numerous TV shows, has never gotten over her crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, and if she had to choose between a good book and a tub of ice-cream, she’d take both and make a run for it.
